Daniel Moreno won the fourth stage of the Tour of Spain. The Spaniard was the strongest in a though strip arrival. Omega Pharma-Quick Step rode again for Gianni Meersman, who finished fourth.
“We knew it was difficult at the end and so the choice to work for Gianni was made quickly”, says Zdenek. “Five riders went off early and quickly took over seven minutes. We had to work hard to get the lead back under control.”
Kristof Vandewalle took over the role of Guillaume Van Keirsbulck of yesterday. “Through his work resulted declined rapidly. Good work from him. In the final, everything came back together and Serge Pauwels and I took over the work. We placed ourselves in tenth position.”
“It was a very steep tricky final stage. Phew! I had seen a sign that pointed to 30%! Terrible! On the top there was only a small peloton over. Gianni did his best, but Moreno was too strong today. Tomorrow we’ll try again.”
And how does Zdenek feel himself? “Better. I feel improvement, but I don’t have the legs of the Eneco Tour yet. My knee is also not really improving, so I must be ‘careful’ every day.”
