The fifth stage of the Tour of Spain was won by Michael Matthews. Gianni Meersman, the sprinter at Omega Pharma-Quick Step, was third. “Great result of Gianni. Matthews was just faster today. Congratulations to him.”
“It was a difficult stage with two third category climbs and several other little climbs. Accounting for a total of 2.700 altitude meters. We rode again for Gianni and with a third place he did not do bad.”
After the stage there was a long bus ride on the program. “After five hours on the bike we had another four hours sitting in the bus. I’m glad I’m the first to get a massage today, we change every day. The dinner will be served again late tonight.”
“This is a bit the other side of the Vuelta. Fortunately, we now have returned to normal hotels, because they were not always good last week. Tomorrow is the ‘easiest’ stage of the tour and hopefully we can recover well.”
