Zdenek finished eighth in his first cyclocross race this season. Our favorite rode the fastest lap of all riders. “And I’m very happy with that. The fans were great by the way”, he said. The victory went to Kevin Pauwels, who won after a fall from Sven Nys.

“I had to start on the third row and so it took a while before I saw the head of the race. In the second lap I was able to move up and I was in front together with Nys. We attacked together, but that didn’t last for long. I made some technical mistakes and had to let go.”

Zdenek first was joined by Pauwels, who went off after a fall of Nys. Our man moved to position two. “But in the last two laps I made too many mistakes and there were more guys coming from behind. If I don’t make so much mistakes, maybe I finish second, but that’s just a part of it.”

An eighth place was the verdict. “I never thought I would fight for the podium until the last lap. I enjoyed the race so much. The audience was fantastic. I want to thank everyone. As for me: I secretly hope that I can do better in the next few races.”
