Styby has become an excellent third in the sixth stage of Paris-Nice. Only Carlos Betancur and world champion Rui Costa did better on the steep final climb. In the general classification Zdenek moves up to a fourth place.
“It was another tough ride,” says Zdenek. “No one really hit it off until after 70 kilometers. The peloton was already in a few peaces after a climb early in the stage. We had an average speed of 49 kilometers per hour after that first 70 kilometers. Unbelievable.”
Omega Pharma-Quick Step rode for Styby in the final. “A new situation for me. I would like to thank them all a lot. They gave me a lot of confidence. We had to climb a lot in the final and the finish was on a steep climb of two kilometers. I finished third.”
“Maybe if I had a better position in the final, I could do better. But I have to be satisfied with my third place. Congratulations to Betancur, winner of two stages and now also the new leader. He has a really great shape for the moment.”
