Niki Terpstra has won Paris-Roubaix. The Dutchman, teammate of Styby at Omega Pharma-Quick Step, won after a solo of 6 kilometers. Later Styby finished fifth. A place better than last year.
“I am very happy for the team,” he said afterwards. “After the last cobbles a group of ten riders came together. With Tom Boonen, Niki Terpstra and myself there were three of OPQS. Niki attacked.”
Nobody was able to close the gap. “I think he went on the best possible moment. He deserved to win. I tried to sprint for a second of third place, but it didn’t work out unfortunately.”
“I’m happy anyway. I think I was one of the best in the race. And if I keep moving up a place every year, then maybe I can win in a few years,” laughs Styby, who will start in the Amstel Gold Race next weekend.
