Zdenek just missed the stage victory on the last day of the Tour de l’Eurométropole. He went in the attack together with two other riders, then left them behind with three kilometers to go and was unfortunately caught with one kilometer to go.
“It was a fast stage, right from the start. That was actually normal, because that’s always with short stages. This one was only 155 kilometers long. After one hour we already had 52 kilometers. After those 52 kilometer, we entree a local circuit, which we had to do six times. There was a little climb in it of 1,5 kilometer.”
And Zdenek had a plan. “I was trying to save my energie for the last round. And then I went together with Matti Breschel and Jens Keukeleire. It was a good group to ride to the finish with, but we did not cooperate good enough. The peloton came back with three kilometers to go, but I tried again and went alone.”
“Unfortunately the peloton came back again with one kilometer to go. On the end I went home with a good feeling, because I feel I’m getting better every day. I’m really happy with that. On Tuesday I will ride Binche - Chimay – Binche.”
