In the third stage of the Volta ao Algarve the time trial bikes were brought up. “Not my favourite discipline”, our champion admits. “Yet he was creditable sixteenth with a minute behind triple time trial world champion Tony Martin.
“I’ve never been good in the time trial, even if I was motivated. I try to work on it and I improve year by year. But today it was a hard one. First part tailwind, then a technical part in the city and the last five kilometer were head- and crosswind.”
Styby never found his rhythm. “I never had a good feeling during the ride. I finished sixteenth with a minute behind Tony, my teammate. He is now second in the classification after Geraint Thomas. With Michal Kwiatkowski on three we have two cards to play with.”
