The Etixx-Quick Step was a bit unlucky today in the Tirreno-Adriatico. Leader Mark Cavendish would be sprinting, but had to deal with a problem at the chain. So no new victory for the team, but a victory for Lotto-Soudal with Jens Debusschere.
“It was actually a short stage of 153 kilometers. And we were very fast to the finish, thanks to our Julien Vermote. He drove like crazy all day by himself in the front of the peloton. Movistar, the team of the leader, didn’t do anything…”
The finish was a bit chaotic. “Cavendish was in a good position, but he had bad luck with his chain. Elia Viviani and a few others crashed really hard due to that unfortunately. Tomorrow we have another chance.”
