DNF in Tirreno

Zdenek abandoned today in Tirreno-Adriatico. Our Czech wil now prepare for Milano-Sanremo next Sunday. “We tried to make something out of this stage, with Mark Cavendish, but it was not ment to be.”

“The weather was again very bad today. No snow this time, but plenty of cold rain. We had a climb of 951 altitude meters with a downhill afterwards, obviously. It went very fast and it was sooooo cold! Brrrrr!”

And then soon followed another climb. “The men of Tinkoff-Saxo went full gas. They wanted to drop Cavendish, and they succeeded in their mission. Together with Niki Terpstra, Fabio Sabatini and Mark Renshaw I waited for Cavendish to bring him back.”

But they never did. “We tried, but it was not possible. Pity, because it would have been a nice sprint, I think. With 30 kilometers to go our sports director Brian Holm said we had to stop. To be honest: I was very happy when I heard this on the radio.”

Styby and his teammates abandoned. “And now the focus is entirely on Milano-Sanremo. I think the condition is very good. I hope to recover well this week and then be 100% ready for the first big classic race of the season”, said Styby.
