The fifth stage in the Tour de France has been won by André Greipel. Styby and his teammates at Etixx-Quick Step successfully defended the yellow jersey of Tony Martin, but didn’t succeed to win the stage with Mark Cavendish.
“What a crazy day at the office again”, Styby said after the finish. “Already after 5 kilometers I had the feeling that we were going into the final. Due to the weather conditions – a lot of wind and rain – everybody was extremely nervous.”
“There were so many crashes and the bunch broke several times. Luckily we were all day riding in front so we were never in troubles. Our goal was to keep Tony save and we did, but we also wanted to win the stage with Cav but that didn’t work out.”
The Briton became 3th. Styby himself finished 56th. In the general classification our favorite still is in 10th position at 1’16” of leader Martin. Tomorrow the peloton will ride to Le Havre, were they expect a sprint again.
