The riders in the Tour de France have their first rest day today. Time to relax a bit. “We rode our bikes this morning, but we will spend the rest of the day mostly in our bed.”
“I’m happy with my Tour so far”, said Styby. “My goal was to win a stage and I did. Actually I thought if I would win a stage, it would be the one over the cobbles. But that stage was not hard enough for specialists.”
Tony Martin was the best that day after he attacked in the final kilometers. “He also took the yellow jersey. But a few days later it went wrong for Tony, who broke his collarbone after a fall in the stage that I won. I felt happy and sad at the same time.”
“A day later, Mark Cavendish won a stage. Also very happy for him, because the victory must gave given him a lot of confidence. So we’re already have three victories. The team time trial of yesterday was also a goal, but we missed Tony and it was very hard.”
Etixx-Quick Step lost 45 seconds and BMC won. In the general classification Styby is still tenth after nine days of racing. “Very nice that I’m there, but when the mountains come, I will be losing a lot of places. I will regularly visit the grupetto.”
“Rigoberto Uran is our leader in the mountains and he currently is sixth. He must be also in very good shape because he didn’t lose a lot of time in the first week. We will do our best to help him the next two weeks.”
