Cancellara wins, Styby second in the Strade Bianche
Zdenek finished second in the Strade Bianche. Fabian Cancellara was a little bit stronger on the end and won the race for the third time. “It’s not a shame to lose against someone as Fabian.”
Peter Sagan attacked with 20 kilometer to go. Only Fabian Cancellara, Gianluca Brambilla and Styby were able to follow the world champion. Brambilla, teammate of Styby at Etixx-Quick Step, was one of the riders who was in the early breakaway.
In the final Brambilla was still able to attack two times. It looked even like the Italian was going to win, but at the steep final climb to Siena he was caught by Cancellara and Styby again. And at the end Cancellara was a bit faster than Styby.
“The race is done with a bittersweet feeling. I was very close to win, but I must admit that Fabian was stronger on the end. As a team we did an excellent job and we had everything under control. My teammates were around me all day long.”
“It’s really a beautiful but very hard race. I think it’s not a shame to lose against someone as Fabian. I’m happy that my condition is on a good level. My next race will be Tirreno-Adriatico that starts on Wednesday.”
