The Tour of Poland has started perfectly for Etixx-Quick Step. Davide Martinelli won the stage, Fernando Gaviria was second and with Styby on place four there were three riders of the team in the top four.
“The circuit in the city at the end was dangerous, as it always is”, Styby said. “It was raining, the roads were not always good and there were also a lot of curves. I do not prefer this, although it is great for the fans.”
The stage would end on a sprint. “But with 1 kilometer to go, it went a little up with cobblestones. I saw a gap, so I told Martinelli to go and give it a try. I was sure they would go after me, but no-one followed Davide.”
“With two curves at the end it was almost impossible to catch him back. He came in solo and won the stage. Gaviria won the sprint for the second place and I came in fourth. I think we really performed great as a team.”
