The thirteenth stage in the Vuelta a Espana has been won by Valerio Conti of Lampre. He finished solo after being part of the break of the day. Yves Lampaert of Etixx-Quick Step took the sixth place. Zdenek finished in the peloton.
“It was a long day with 213 kilometers. Plus the 10 kilometers of neutralization. And it was also very warm. All this together we knew a breakaway would have a big chance to make it to the end. So we had to make sure one of our team would be in front.”
Etixx-Quick Step had chosen for Lampaert and Zdenek. “It had to be one of us, because we are both fast in a sprint. Lampaert made it, but in the final a few other guys were too strong. Tomorrow there will be a new hard stage with 5.600 altitude meters.”
