A lot of chaos in the first stage of the Eneco Tour
Dutch champion Dylan Groenewegen has won the first stage in the Eneco Tour. Groenewegen was the fastest in a bunch sprint. “We wanted to make a good lead out for Marcel Kittel, but it was way to chaotic in the final.”
“In the beginning of the race five riders rode away. An ideal scenario for us. Iljo Keisse of our team had to chase them down from the peloton and that worked out perfectly. But when we reached the last 20 kilometers it was chaos everywhere.”
There were some crashes and everybody wanted to be in front. “But eventually no team would succeed to make a train for their sprinter. For me it was a quiet good day to get back in the race rhythm. Tomorrow we have a time trial.”
