Jhoan Esteban Chaves Rubio has won the Giro di Lombardia. The Colombian was the strongest after 240 kilometers. Zdenek didn’t finish the race. “I felt good, but this race was just too hard for me”, he says.
“I knew it would be hard, but I didn’t expect it was going to be so hard. I did all I could to get into the breakaway, but it didn’t work out. After 1,5 hours we started to climb and I had an average wattage of 397 and it wasn’t enough to follow.”
Later they had to climb the Valcava. A climb of 11 kilometers. “Then I knew it was going to be very difficult for me to finish the race. I felt good, but this race was just too hard for me. After the Valcava I followed the direction of Bergamo, where the team bus was.”
“It’s only the second time this year I don’t finish a race. First was Rio, now here. But my legs felt like I did the whole distance. Everyone agreed this was the hardest race of their life and honestly when I saw our guys coming to the bus they were looking 10 years older than this morning.”
