Yesterday Quick Step Floors won the second stage of the Tour de France with Marcel Kittel. The German was the fastest in a bunch sprint. Today the team had to do it with a third place for Daniel Martin. Peter Sagan won.
“Actually it was a really nervous stage today”, Styby says. “The breakaway was under control, but when Thomas De Gendt attacked with a few guys in the final, we had some difficulties in the peloton. We also went thrue some cities and that didn’t make it easier with a lot of corners.”
“Eventually everything got back together and we went with the peloton to the last difficult kilometers. We were good in front with the team, but maybe I was a little bit too much in front. In the final kilometers I didn’t have any power in my legs anymore.”
“We did had several cards for today, with Philippe Gilbert, Matteo Trentin and Daniel Martin. The last one did manage to sprint to third place. Tomorrow it will be another bunch sprint and we go for a second one with Marcel.”
