The Tour of Belgium is over. Today the riders tackled the final stage, which brought them to Putte. “I though it would be an easy stage. But no way! Despite the wind, the first 50km were extremely fast.”
The general classification had pretty much been decided after the stage in the Ardennes. Today was an opportunity for the fast men to do their thing and Quick Step was hoping for a Tom Boonen win. “We had to bring him to the line, but I lost him in the last 2km.”
“I finished the tour with a good feeling,” Zdenek commented. “I was able to stay with the best riders on the climbs. But I also realized I still have a lot to learn. With more experience I would have finished in the top ten. Or maybe even the top five.”
Styby, who finished 22nd overall,10 minutes behind winner Philippe Gilbert, is hoping to learn quickly and is going to keep working. “Tuesday I'll ride in Gullegem and Wednesday I'm leaving for Lago di Guardo to train in the mountains. I'll stay there until the Tour of Switzerland, which starts June 11.”
