Styby was back cycling at the highest level today as the Eneco Tour kicked off with a 5.7 kilometer prologue in the Dutch city of Amersfoort. Our champion went up against top riders such as Edvald Boasson Hagen, Philippe Gilbert and André Greipel, but it was the young American, Taylor Phinney, who emerged victorious on the day.
“I feel like I still have a lot of work to do to improve my time trial,” he said after the finish. “I couldn't find my rhythm and lost a lot of time because of that. Hopefully I'll do better in a few days during the longer 15 kilometer time trial.” Styby finished 111th in Amersfoort, 45 seconds behind the winner.
“I can live with that. I didn't know what to expect today because I was sick for two days last week. I lost a couple of training days, but didn't lose too much form. I felt good today. Tomorrow is a flat stage that passes near Essen. That's nice because my girlfriend lives there! But I don't. Unfortunately I haven't been in Essen much since March.”
