Zdenek was second in today’s GP of Wallonia in Dottignies. Our champion finished behind Belgian champion Niels Albert. “It was a difficult race for me. I never really felt good,” he said after the race.
Albert and Styby were the only two top riders to start in Dottignies. The rest of the big names, including Sven Nys and Kevin Pauwels, chose to skip the race in order to be fully rested for Sunday’s GVA race in Ronse. “I hope I won’t pay for today’s efforts during tomorrow’s race.”
It was a race to quickly forget. “Despite the fact that I finished second, I had a rough race from start to finish. I never felt good. I switched bikes a few times, but that didn’t help. Hopefully I’ll feel a lot better tomorrow.”
Albert won with a strong solo effort to finish 12 seconds ahead of Styby, who won the sprint for second. Radomir Simunek completed the podium, while last year’s winner, Francis Mourey, finished in fourth. Rob Peeters rounded out the top five.
