Styby is in a great shape! He won today’s World Cup race in Spanish Igorre. Fort the first time in his career!
On the muddy track Zdenek attacked in the last lap. He led the race together with Sven Nys and Niels Albert. When he attacked, Nys fell down and Albert, who was nehind him, lost few seconds. Styby was strong and he had 6 seconds advantage before second Albert at the finnish line.
Styby, what was the race?
Surprisingly well. I felt very tired on Friday after training in Benicassim. I was almost k.o. :)- But when the race began, I felt strong legs. I knew from the second lap, that I am able to fight for the win.
Did you plan an attack for last round?
No. I just was on the first position and I wanted to keep my tempo. Nys and Albert made small mistake there, and I caught the chance. There was one Dutch rider lap behind, Sven fell down. It could happen to everyone.
What about the weather and muddy track?
There was a strong rain in the morning, but he did not run too much as I expected. But it was hard race for sure. I am very happy with the win, this track did not suit me in previous years. I can say now, that I am able to win anywhere.
