Zdenek has finished the first stage of the Tour of Beijing in China. Thor Hushovd won in a bunch sprint where he was faster than Luka Mezgec. Styby finished as 100th.
“I was actually a little scared to come here”, says Zdenek. “I was afraid to ride in the smog, but eventually that wasn’t so bad. We ride mostly outside the city. It was a huge boring stage today, though.”
“It was 190 kilometer on big roads, nearly highway. The first 50 kilometer I thought it would be an endless ride, but on the end it was fast done. We tried to bring Alessandro in the best position to the finish.”
“We had no train there, but he was in good position for the sprint. He ended as 4th after Nikolas Maes. Tomorrow we try again to bring Alessandro into winning position. He deserves it.”
