Oman starts with easy first stage

André Greipel has won the first stage of the Tour of Oman. The German was the fastest sprinter after 164 kilometers. Styby and his teammates at Omega Pharma-Quick Step helped Tom Boonen to a fifth place.

“The first stage here was relative easy. Four guys jumped away at the start. The breakaway was controlled by the peloton all the time. With 25 kilometer to go there was a strong crosswind, but only 30 riders stayed behind.”

“We tried to set Boonen in the best position for the sprint and he became fifth”, Styby said. Our champion himself finished as 90th.
