Eighth place in Ronse

Styby became eighth in his first cyclocross this season. The world champion took a good start. “Maybe I was a little too excited, because after my perfect start I had to recover two or three laps. Everybody passed me. But it was fun to be here. I enjoyed it.”

“I surprised myself after the start. I took the lead quite early in the race, however I started on the second row. I thought, okay, I’ll go for it. But after the part where we had to run, I needed a couple of laps to catch my breath. The running part was maybe the hardest part of the race for me. I didn’t run for a long time now.”

Zdenek dropped back to eighth place. “I knew it was not realistic to win here. Yesterday I trained for the first time on my cyclocross bike. A place in the top ten seemed feasible, and it has become the eighth. It was fun to be here. Now I will start in Ardooie next Thursday and then in Woerden, a few days later.”
