Mark Cavendish won the Clasica de Almeria in Spain. The teammate of Styby was the fastest sprinter after 183 kilometers. Our Czech champion worked for the team and was obviously also very happy with his win.
“Today was a great day of teamwork. It all started at kilometer 0. ‘Cav’ felt good and so he was obviously our absolute leader. There was a lot of wind and we also had to survive a few climbs, but they were not hard enough to prevent a sprint.”
After the last climb some riders set up an anchellon. “The peloton was split. From then on we tried to control until the end and that was successful. I then put Mark Renshaw and Mark Cavendish off 350 meters from the line and they did the rest.”
Cavendish won and Renshaw even finished third. “Very nice to start the season like this. Yesterday I was third and now we end up with two men on the podium. Great. Now we travel to Portugal for the Volta ao Algarve.”
